Requirements for Inbound Email

The following section describes the technical requirements and policies for the delivery of email using BlueTie mail servers. BlueTie reserves the right, without notice to modify the requirements and policies set forth in this documentation at any time. Before opening a support ticket with BlueTie's Abuse department, please be sure to read and understand the requirements set for this document. It is BlueTie's policy to maintain strict adherence to these policies to ensure the safety of our clients and their data.

Technical Requirements

  • All email received by BlueTie mail servers must be RFC 2821 & RFC 2822 compliant.
  • All mail servers connecting to BlueTie must:
    • Have valid, non-generic or dynamic reverse DNS records.
    • Be secured to prevent unauthorized use (i.e must not be an open relay or proxy)
    • Not attempt to send more than 10 email messages per SMTP connection.
    • Not attempt to open more than 10 simultaneous SMTP connections.
  • Connections made directly from dynamic or residential IP address space may not be accepted.
  • Connections from IP addresses that have a poor or non-existent reputation or have been blacklisted via an RBL may not be accepted, or may be throttled and/or rate limited.

Policy Requirements

  • All email received by BlueTie mail servers must conform to BlueTie's legal requirements and guidelines (http://www.bluetie.com/legal/)
  • All commercial email must be CAN-SPAM compliant.
  • Commercial, Opt-In, and Subscription based senders must ensure they have applied for Feedback Loop Service (http://feedback.bluetie.com) . The information supplied in this form should be maintained and up-to-date at all times.
  • All email received by BlueTie must not have altered, hidden, misrepresented, misleading or forged header information.
  • Opt-In Information, including the method in which the email address was obtained, the date/time and method of opt-in, and IP address used during the opt-in process must be made available to BlueTie's Abuse Team upon request. Failure to supply such information may result in the block, throttle or rate limiting of future email from sender.
  • Subscription based email must contain valid, non-electronic contact information for the sending organization which must include the name, address, telephone number and contact in the text of each message. Failure to supply such information may result in the block, throttle or rate limiting of future email from sender.
  • A good IP reputation must be maintained at all times. Complaints from members, statistical analysis of bounces, invalid recipients, external (3rd party) reputation providers and spam trap hits or combinations of the above mentioned items may result in the block, throttle or rate limiting of future email.
  • BlueTie reserves the right to suspend sending service from any IP address which, at it's sole discretion believes has violated any of the Technical or Policy requirements outlined above.
